Who are the PSA?
Brunel Field Parent Staff Association (PSA) is made up of all of the school community. Parents, carers, families and staff all have an important role to play.
The PSA is a registered charity run by a committee of parent volunteers to further our main objectives:
- To raise funds that help school to provide additional activities, resources and opportunities that enhance the education and experience of its pupils
- To build community - bringing families, teachers, staff and the wider community together
In carrying out these objectives we always commit to being protective of our environment and supporting activities that have a positive impact on our planet. Ensuring that our activities are accessible and inclusive.
With the help of the school parent and carer community, we help to raise thousands of pounds every year. This is done through activities such as cake sales, firework displays, seasonal celebrations, summer fairs, table top sales, tea towel sales, school community events and school discos (and so much more!!)
The money raised helps to fund school activities and resources that the school otherwise would struggle to fund due to the lack of government funding – the more we help the school with additional money, the more money they have to prioritize teaching, learning and pastoral care.
Over the last year alone these projects have helped fund a variety of additional learning resources for school. Some examples of these: the refurbishment of the school library, visits from authors and poets, workshops from theatre company Travelling Light, Explorer Dome science experience, hatching and rearing chicks through the Living Eggs scheme, play equipment and gardening supplies, science assemblies, We the Curious equipment hire, steel pan workshop, a new playground shelter… and so much more!
We also arrange regular food bank donations, preloved school uniform sales, repurposing of old school equipment, and activities like “winter coat drives” to help our wider community in Bristol.
How is the money allocated?
The majority of funding is distributed to school through funding requests from staff. These “bids” can be submitted to the PSA throughout the year for additional funding needed to support learning and the school community. All parents and carers are able to support or challenge these requests through a voting process. The PSA committee helps to ensure the allocations of bids are fair across the year groups and communicates to the community the outcome of these bids and how funds are raised and spent on a termly basis.
In addition to the bids process, each year, £200 is allocated to each year groups’ teaching team from the proceeds of cake sales, to help fund ad hoc expenses needed for class activities or supplies.

How can you help?
We need you!
We always welcome anyone who wants to become involved with school activities and fundraising. Our volunteers help make events happen and without the support of our amazing families and the school, we would not be able to provide these additional experiences for our young ones! We share communication on events mainly through class WhatsApp groups and the school newsletter.
Our committee is voted on each year at the Annual General Meeting (around the start of term 1) The committee (2023-2024) consists of the following roles:

In addition we have a wonderful events team made up of volunteers who help and lead on events throughout the year, and a passionate eco team driven to improve and educate to help us become as sustainable as we can as a school.
