Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is extra money given to schools for each child they have on roll who is eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), or who has been registered for FSM in the past six years. The government has given schools this extra money to help raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gap between them and their peers. As well as this, schools receive extra funding for looked after children and the children of service personnel.

At Brunel Field Primary School we want all our children to feel like our school is a place they belong; a place they feel safe, a place they feel heard and a place they feel represented. Our Pupil Premium strategy, alongside our continuing work on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, aims to understand the varied needs of, and barriers for, our disadvantaged families. We understand that building strong relationships with children is fundamental in enabling them to thrive both socially and academically.

Our key objective in using the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is to diminish the differences between pupil groups. Our aim is to support children to make good or accelerated progress across the curriculum and this is monitored through regular data tracking, focused assessments and pupil progress meetings with teachers and members of the senior leadership team. We value the role that enriching experiences can have on building confidence and self-expression through language. We consider these to be crucial in addressing educational disadvantage and use the Arts as a driver to support language acquisition across the curriculum. We set aside funds to subsidise enriching activities such as sporting events, music lessons and school trips to encourage our disadvantaged families to accept these offers.
